The World in 1938 by JaySimons The World in 1938 by JaySimons
Finally, I present the complete political map of the World in 1938, very detailed, in high quality. It includes many fancy features like sea currents, all major cities, and many geographical descriptions.
Though, this is far away from final version. Final map will include many other features, including artistic fonts, fancy styled meridians and tropics, better coloring, prevailing winds, and much more. The final product will include 22 more maps, all together in one poster, showing north and south polar region, north and south sky and demographic&climatic&miscellaneous info.
Finally, to announce, I am aiming for bringing the "political map of the world" concept to whole new level, even above today's best maps. Final result of this giant project shall be unique artwork, preciously combining cartography with art, something that has not been there ever before in such of a scale. There will be also, of course, political map of the world in present times.
Sorry for the watermark, it is only to prevent potential abuse.
Just for fun, if you find Skull island and write its position in your comment, you will get 5 point gift(only the first one).
Some labels on map have been damaged during the connecting of separate segments of map, sorry for that.

When will the final version be ready?  Would like this with a little less grunge!  Just a little though :)  Wanting to have it framed for our living room or bedroom!

Like it a lot, and its a masterpiece, but I think that height must be presented in some other way. The dark areas everywhere where there is a mountain ruins the whole otherwise awesome picture. It's even so disturbing that it keeps me from buying a print of your map to showcase in my study.

I am pretty sure Iran was "Persia" in 1938, but otherwise it is a stunning master piece :O (impressed dude sitting in his chair)

You messed up the Northwest Territories. I'm not certain about Yukon, but Nunavut didn't get split off until 1999. Also, I'm pretty sure that Alaska gets a little red U.S. beside its name, since it didn't become a state until 1959. And Taiwan should probably be called "Formosa", since that was its official name at the time. And I take it this is pre-Anschluss? Besides those nitpicks, terrific map.

Yeah, I also donīt like current mountain design.
Fortunately, I am currently rendering a height map, so it will be perfectly fixed in the next version.
Otherwise many thanks!

VERY NICE. My only question is about the border of Florida. Maybe Im wrong, but from what I can see it is only East Florida, and the West Florida panhandle has been given to Alabama and Mississippi.

Very nice.

One suggestion: The names of cities in Finland are all in Finnish, except for the city of Viipuri/Viborg/Vyborg, which is given by its Swedish name "Viborg": obviously this is because of a bit of an anachronistic slip (after the wars, it became the Soviet Vyborg), but before 1939 and with all the other cities given in Finnish, it stands out a bit.

This is absolutely amazing. The sheer amount of work and time that went into this project must have been exponential. I would actually buy this. Fantastic work!

very nice. i think the paper texture might be a bit too much, obscuring some features, making them difficult to read. i think it would benefit greatly from being toned down ever so slightly. other than that, very well done.

Skull Island is in the Indian Ocean, nearly due south from Ceylon (Sri Lanka) or west of Sumatra, at 12 degrees South, 78 degrees East.
